Balanced Scoring Attack Leads Rambelles Past Falcons

SAN ANGELO, Texas – After a solid performance on both ends, the Angelo State women's basketball team downed UT Permain Basin 71-55 in the Junell Center/Stephens Arena Thursday evening.
 
The Rambelles finish the regular season 22-6 overall and 17-5 in Lone Star Conference play and now await Saturday results for seeding for the LSC tournament. The Falcons finish the regular season 13-15 and 10-12 in conference action.
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • Aicha Ndir, Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant, and Sawyer Lloyd got things going for the Rambelles who took an early 6-4 lead in the first.
  • Brighton Adams drained a triple as the Rambelles went up 12-9 with 3:15 to go in the quarter.
  • The Blue and Gold were unable to score after Adams' triple as UTPB took advantage and went into quarter two leading 14-12.
  • A McGhee-Pleasant layup was the only bucket the Rambelles registered in the first four and a half minutes in the second, Falcons still leading 16-14.
  • The Rambelles would answer with nine straight points to pull ahead by seven, 23-16 with 3:16 to go before the half.
  • A pair of Madeline Stephens triples would give the Rambelles a nine-point lead, 29-20, heading into the halftime break.
  • Another run by the Rambelles, this time 7-0, opened the third as the hosts jumped ahead 36-20 with just over eight minutes still in the quarter.
  • The teams battled over the next four minutes, the Rambelles building their lead to its largest to that point, 45-28 with four minutes remaining.
  • The Falcons would answer, scoring 11 straight to pull within six before a pair of buckets from Landry Morrow and Madisen Honea ended the quarter, Rambelles leading 49-39.
  • Over the first five minutes in the fourth, Adams hit her second and third triples of the contest to put the Rambelles ahead by 13, 61-48.
  • Stephens made four straight to give the Rambelles their largest lead of the game, 67-48, a 19 point differential with just over three minutes remaining.
  • Free throws by Morrow and a late jumper by Kyla Cobb saw the Rambelles over the line with a 71-55 victory at home.
 
GAME STATS
  • Stephens led the way for the Rambelles with 18 points on an efficient 5-8 shooting including 6-6 from the free throw line to go along with seven rebounds.
  • McGhee-Pleasant earned her 10th double-double of the year, posting 14 points and 10 boards.
  • Lloyd was on the verge of a triple-double after finishing with nine points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists.
  • Morrow also scored in double figures with 11 points and four rebounds.
  • Adams tied her career high with nine points after going 3-4 from three-point range.
  • The Rambelles shot 42 percent from the field while limiting the Falcons to 28 percent, their fourth worst shooting performance of the season.
  • The offense and defense were clicking for the Blue and Gold with 17 assists to go along with 10 steals.
  • The victory marks the 11th straight win over the Falcons, dating back to the 2015-16 campaign.

The Rambelles await results from this weekend to see seeding for the Lone Star Conference tournament which kicks off next Thursday, Mar. 2nd at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
