FRISCO, Texas – At the conclusion of the first-round contest in Frisco, the Angelo State women's basketball team bested Cameron 70-62 after shooting 46 percent from the field and 91 percent from the free throw line Thursday afternoon.
The Rambelles improve to 23-6 on the season and advance to the semi-finals in the Lone Star Conference tournament.
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- The Rambelles got contributions from four different players as they got off to a quick start and jumped to an early 10-2 lead in the first after Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant hit a turnaround jumper.
- Another bucket by McGhee-Pleasant put the Rambelles up 10, 14-4, at the 3:30 mark in the first.
- The teams traded a pair of buckets down the stretch as the Blue and Gold took a 16-8 lead into quarter number two.
- Landry Morrow made a layup that pushed the two-seed ahead by 14, 22-8 with just under eight minutes before the halftime break.
- Cameron would not go away quietly as they had two small runs of their own to pull back within three, 26-23, at the 2:18 mark in quarter number two.
- Sawyer Lloyd and Madeline Stephens each made a bucket down the stretch as the Rambelles took a 30-25 lead into the break.
- Six straight points from Stephens got the Rambelles lead back to double figures at the 6:33 mark, ahead 39-29.
- Lloyd ended a 5-0 run from the Aggies at the 4:16 mark with a pull up jumper to put the Rambelles up seven, 41-34.
- As the teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the third, Lloyd was able to cap off a 10-point quarter with a late layup as the Rambelles took a 51-46 lead into the final frame.
- Madisen Honea scored five straight for the Rambelles as they brought the lead up to nine, 58-49, with 6:59 to go in the first-round contest.
- The Rambelles pulled ahead by 12, 68-56, as Stephens capped off a 7-2 run with 4:33 seconds to go.
- McGhee-Pleasant made one final bucket as the Rambelles saw a 70-62 victory over the line, advancing to the semi-finals.

- Lloyd led all scorers with 23 points, she was just one assists away from her first career triple-double as she finished with 14 rebounds and nine assists.
- McGhee-Pleasant earned double-double number 11 on the year as she posted 16 points and 14 rebounds.
- Stephens rounded out the big three with a double-double of her own, also posting 16 points to go along with 10 boards.
- Honea had a big impact off the bench, scoring nine points in her 30 minutes of action.
- The Rambelles defense thwarted the Aggies for much of the contest as Cameron would go on to shoot just 32 percent from the field.
- The Blue and Gold would finish the game with 16 assists and six steals.
- The victory marks the first over the Aggies this season and the first since 2019.
