SAN ANGELO, Texas – The fifth-ranked Angelo State baseball team completed the sweep in the first Lone Star Conference series of the season, defeating Eastern New Mexico 6-3 in game four at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams improve to 4-0 to begin the year, extending their LSC regular-season win streak to 17 games dating back to last season.
ASU had an early lead in the final game on Sunday, scoring in the bottom of the first after a double play by the Greyhounds allowed one run to score with the bases loaded.
ENMU tied the game in the fourth inning, stealing third base before scoring on an errant throw. The Greyhounds went on to take their first lead of the series in the sixth inning, hitting a two-run home run over the left field wall to take a 3-1 advantage.
Mason Bryant made his debut on the mound for the Rams, tossing five 1/3 innings with four hits, three runs, and seven strikeouts.
In the seventh inning, ASU loaded the bases before
Austin Beck earned an RBI walk while a sac-fly by
Tripp Clark tied the game, scoring
Jackson Hardy on the play. The Rams regained the lead in the same inning as
Thomas Cain followed up with a two-RBI single to left field to make it 5-3.
Earning the victory was
Scott Ellis in his first appearance for the Rams, throwing three 2/3 innings with three hits and four strikeouts.
ASU tallied nine walks on the day, three coming from
Tayten Tredaway, while
Jackson Hardy finished with two hits and two runs on the day. Tredaway brought in the final run of the game, hitting a solo home run to right field for his first of the season.
The Rams will travel for the first time this season next weekend as they head to Cameron for a four-game conference series beginning on Friday, Feb. 10.
