SAN ANGELO, Texas – The third-ranked Angelo State baseball team set a new program record for runs scored in a game on Wednesday night, defeating Southwestern 33-4 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams sweep the Pirates in the two-game nonconference series, improving to 23-3 overall on the year.
Jumping out to a lead in the first inning, the Rams tallied seven runs capped off by a three-run homer from
Justin Harris.
After that, the Rams put up nine runs in both the second and third innings to take a 25-0 lead over the Pirates.
Jordan Williams hit his fifth home run of the season in the second, a two-run shot over the left field wall before adding two more runs in the third on a single. Also sending a ball over the wall was Tayten Tredway who hit a two-run shot to right field.
Scott Ellis started on the mound for the Rams, tossing two innings of work with no runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
The Pirates collected three runs in the fourth after earning three walks in the inning, bringing in two runs on a single followed by a sac fly.
In the bottom of the fourth, ASU put five more runs on the board with two coming from a double by
Rance Rosas down the left field line.
Southwestern tallied its fourth run of the game in the fifth, scoring on a single to right field.
The Rams made it 33-4 in the bottom of the fifth as Rosas collected another RBI on a single to center field before a hit-by-pitch and a groundout by Christian Garnett added two more runs.
Harris collected eight RBIs on the night off of three hits, earning the second most RBIs in a single game in program history. Williams finished with five RBIs while four other Rams earned three.
The Rams return to Lone Star Conference play on Friday, hosting St. Mary's in game one of the series with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
