SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team split their doubleheader on Friday against Eastern New Mexico, winning game one 3-1 before dropping game two 9-5.
Bailey Martinez doubled to lead off the second inning before scoring on an
Ashton McMillan double to open the scoring.
The Greyhounds responded with a run in the third inning to tie the game;
Lindsey Evans' two-out solo home run in the bottom of the inning regifted the Rambelles the lead.
Keilei Garcia's solo home run in the fourth inning tacked on an insurance run for the Rambelles as they closed out the 3-1 victory.
Genesis Armendariz collected her 11
th win, allowing one run on seven hits in 6.1 innings;
Cheyenne Floyd entered in relief with a pair of runners on, with the Liberty Hill native striking out the final two batters for her third save of the season.
Martinez was the lone Rambelle in game one to tally a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 and collecting a third of the Rambelles' hits.
The Greyhounds kicked off scoring in game two with a solo home run in the top of the first; a McMillan sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning tied the game up.
A solo home run in the second saw the visitors retake the lead before a five-run third inning saw the game blown open.
The Rambelles pushed a run across in the third and two in the fourth to make it 7-4; the Greyhounds homered again to make it 9-4 in the fifth.
Garcia left the yard for the second time in the day in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the game to the final score of 9-5.
The Rambelles are now 19-12 on the season and 11-9 in conference play; the series' rubber match takes place tomorrow at 1 p.m.
