SAN ANGELO – Coming off a weekend where the Angelo State softball team took two out of three games from Eastern New Mexico, the Rambelles are back on the road for a midweek conference series, this time traveling south to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville in a three-game series.
The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. tomorrow, with the series ending at noon on Wednesday.
The Rambelles are 20-12 on the season and 12-9 in conference play.
Angelo State's offense is hitting .295 as a team, third-best in the conference, and boasts four players –
Ashlyn Lerma,
Ashton McMillan,
Bailey Martinez, and
Paxton Scheurer – who are all hitting over .300 on the season.
Lerma continues her reign atop the stolen bases leaderboard in Division II. Her 39 stolen bases are the eighth-most in a single season in program history.
Additionally, Lerma is hitting a team-best .402 on the season and is third in the LSC with 24 walks drawn this season.
McMillan and Martinez are 16
th and 17
th in the conference in batting, with a .375 mark for McMillan while Martinez is hitting .372 on the season. McMillan is hitting .400 in LSC play, and Martinez is currently riding a ten-game hitting streak, hitting .500 from the plate (14-for-28).
Scheurer has driven in 33 runs this season, second-most in the LSC; teammate
Lindsey Evans has ten home runs this season, tied for third-most, while Scheurer has nine (fifth in the LSC) and
Keilei Garcia has eight (sixth in the LSC).
The Rambelle pitchers have a 2.65 ERA, striking out 183 batters in 222 innings; they hold opponents to a .228 batting average.
Genesis Armendariz is coming off a week in which she collected a pair of wins, bringing her season total to 12, second in the LSC. She has 53 career wins, the sixth-most in program history.
Armendariz also ranks in the top five in innings pitched (99.2 innings, third in the conference) and strikeouts (84, fifth in the LSC).
Cheyenne Floyd has a 2.06 ERA and has a conference-best three saves; her opponent's batting average of .203 is tenth-best in the league.
SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS
Texas A&M-Kingsville is 12-14 on the season and 9-9 in conference play; they are currently in a five-game skid, losing their last two against Lubbock Christian at home and getting swept by Cameron this past weekend. The Javelinas are 4-5 on their home field this season.
The Javelinas are batting .268 as a team and score 3.7 runs per game. Jory Cervantes' .413 batting average leads them, and Kayla Gonzales leads the team with four home runs and 17 RBIs.
The Javelina pitchers have a 3.77 ERA and an opponent's batting average of .255; Beth Montes has seven of the Javelinas' 12 wins and has a 2.71 ERA, striking out 59 batters in 73 innings.
The Rambelles are 29-5 against the Javelinas, dating back to 2008, and are 18-2 in Kingsville in that same time period. Last season, the two teams split their doubleheader, with the 4-1 win on April 10
