Rambelles Drop Doubleheader to Javelinas

Kingsville, Texas – The Angelo State softball team dropped both games in their doubleheader this evening to Texas A&M-Kingsville, losing 11-3 in a run-rule before dropping game two 1-0.

The Javelinas dominated game one, scoring three runs in the first inning and four in the second to jump to a 7-0 lead.

The only Rambelles in game one to tally hits were Ashlyn Lerma, Paxton Scheurer, and Ashton McMillan.

Lerma went 3-for-3 from the plate while McMillan went 2-for-3, and Scheurer hit a three-run home run, her tenth of the season.

A two-out error in the first inning of game two extended the inning for the Javelinas, who drew a walk and singled in the game's lone run.

The Rambelles only mustered five hits in game two, with Lerma, McMillan, Scheurer, Bailey Martinez, and Ashton Dirner each collecting a hit.

Martinez led off the final inning with a single, and pinch runner Layni Tanner advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.

With two outs, Tanner would swipe third, and with the throw going into the outfield, Tanner dashed for the plate, only to be thrown out to end the game.

Genesis Armendariz pitched a complete game and gave a respectable performance despite taking the loss. She only conceded three hits and three walks, with the run she allowed being unearned.

The Rambelles are 20-14 on the season and 12-11 in conference play; their series against the Javelinas closes out tomorrow at noon.
