SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team, coming off a disappointing 2-4 week last week, looks to return to winning ways this weekend when they travel to Silver City, New Mexico, to take on Western New Mexico in a three-game series.
Friday's doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. central time, with Saturday's series finale also scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Rambelles are 22-16 on the season and 14-13 in conference play; this past week, the Rambelles dropped a pair of games to Texas A&M-Kingsville on the road and St. Mary's at home.
The Rambelle lineup is hitting .286 on the season, fifth in the LSC.
Ashlyn Lerma's 45 hits are third in the conference, one back of a tie for the most in the LSC; she is hitting .391 on the season and has stolen 43 bases, second-most in the country.
Ashton McMillan and
Bailey Martinez are hitting .378 and .358, respectively, and
Paxton Scheurer is hitting .325.
Scheurer leads the team with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs; she is slugging .667.
The Rambelle pitchers own a 2.92 ERA and an opponent batting average of .232.
Cheyenne Floyd has a 2.34 ERA and has 60 strikeouts in 64.2 innings, while
Genesis Armendariz ranks second in the LSC with 13 wins inside the circle this season.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Western New Mexico is 3-29 on the season, and 1-23 in LSC play; they have lost their last 19 games, last winning on February 21
st, and have not won a home game in 12 attempts this season.
The Mustangs are hitting .196 as a team, averaging 2.1 runs per game; Bryana Munoz's .266 batting average leads them.
The fifth-year senior also leads the team with three home runs and 13 RBIs.
Mustang pitchers have a 7.48 ERA and an opponent's batting average of .365; Kamerynn Cordova has picked up two of the Mustang's three wins this season inside the circle, striking out 48 batters in 81.1 innings.
The Rambelles are 16-0 all-time against the Mustangs and are 9-0 against the Mustangs in Silver City.
