SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team hits the road this afternoon to travel south to Laredo to take on Texas A&M International in a three-game series this Tuesday and Wednesday. The Rambelles and the Dustdevils open the series tomorrow with a noon doubleheader before closing the series on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
The Rambelles are 26-18 on the season and 18-15 in conference play; with only nine games left, they hold the sixth seed in the LSC standings.
The Rambelles are 8-7 on the road this season and are 6-3 in midweek LSC contests this season.
This past weekend, the Rambelles went 2-1 against St. Edward's, dropping the opener 2-1 before rebounding to take both doubleheader games 5-2 and 5-1.
The Rambelles are hitting .289 as a team and have hit 49 home runs while stealing 112 bases.
Ashlyn Lerma leads the team with a .378 batting average; she has a .488 on-base percentage and has stolen 50 bases, just one shy of the career-high mark she set last season.
The senior second baseman has 138 career stolen bases, the second-most in program history and 14 shy of the program record set by Alexis Wing.
She joins Wing as the only two players in ASU history to have multiple 50-steal seasons, and she is only eight of Wing's 2003 season, which saw her swipe 58 bags.
Ashton McMillan is hitting .358 on the season, while
Bailey Martinez has a .354 average; Martinez was the Rambelles' leading hitter this past weekend, going 4-for-8 from the plate with a double and a pair of RBIs.
Paxton Scheurer is hitting .343, leading the team with 13 home runs and 44 RBIs.
Rambelle pitchers have a 2.93 ERA this season and a .233 opponent batting average.
Cheyenne Floyd only allowed 11 hits and three runs while striking out 12 Hilltoppers this past weekend;
Torrey Hogan threw her second complete game of the season against the Hilltoppers, striking out seven in seven innings of work.
SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS
Texas A&M International is 16-25 on the season and 12-18 in conference play; they are 9-6 at home this season and are coming off a weekend in which they were swept by Cameron, scoring only one run across three games.
The Dustdevils are hitting .226 as a team and are led by Kristy Alanis' .326 average; infielder Tajanae Davis leads the team with three home runs and 24 RBIs on the season.
The Dustdevil pitchers have a 3.04 ERA and are led by the duo of Carla Arellano and Erika Cortez. Arellano has a 2.11 ERA, while Cortez has a 2.44 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 91.2 innings of work this season.
The Rambelles have already beaten the Dustdevils three times this season, doing so during the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge, winning by scorelines of 6-1, 4-3, and 3-0.
