Laredo, Texas – The Angelo State softball team could not convert yesterday's doubleheader sweep into a series sweep over Texas A&M International on Wednesday afternoon in Laredo, falling to the Dustdevils 8-1.
The Rambelles' lone run came in the top of the first when
Ashlyn Lerma led the game off with a single before stealing second and scoring on a
Lindsey Evans RBI single.
Lerma, Evans, Paxton Schuerer, and
Bailey Martinez each tallied one hit as the Rambelles only mustered four hits against the Dustdevils.
One run by the hosts in the first tied the game before five runs in the second, and two more in the third saw them get an 8-1 lead, one they would hold onto for the rest of the contest.
Cheyenne Floyd took the loss, only lasting 1.2 innings;
Torrey Hogan pitched the final 4.1 innings in relief, allowing four hits and two runs while striking two and allowing two walks.
Lerma tallied two more stolen bases on the day, bringing her season total to 57, just one shy of tying the program single-season record.
The Rambelles are 28-19 on the season and 20-16 in conference play; the Rambelles close out their home schedule this weekend when they welcome Lubbock Christian into Mayer Field.
