Rambelles Drop Two to Lubbock Christian on Saturday

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State softball team dropped two games against Lubbock Christian during Saturday's doubleheader, falling 3-2 and 8-7 at Mayer Field.
 
With the losses, the Rambelles move to 28-21 overall on the year and 20-18 in Lone Star Conference play.
 
GAME ONE: LCU 3, ASU 2 (8 innings)
The Lady Chaps opened the scoring in the fifth inning, hitting a double to center field for a 1-0 advantage.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, the Rambelles took the lead after bases-loaded walks by Ashlyn Lerma and Lindsey Evans to make it 2-1.
 
Cheyenne Floyd started in the circle for ASU, throwing five 2/3 innings with two runs on seven hits to go along with six strikeouts.
 
The Lady Chaps added another run in the sixth inning to tie the game on another double to center field before scoring the final run in the eighth on a single.
 
Genesis Armendariz closed out the game, throwing two 1/3 innings with one run on one hit and three strikeouts.
 
GAME TWO: LCU 8, ASU 7 (8 innings)
In game two of the doubleheader, LCU struck first with two runs to begin the game, scoring on a bases-loaded wild pitch before a line out brought in the second run.
 
The Belles tied the game in the bottom half of the inning as Bailey Martinez hit a two-run shot over the left field wall. ASU took the lead in the third as Paxton Scheurer singled to center field to score Lerma on the play and give the Belles a 3-2 lead.
 
LCU came back in the fifth, hitting two homers while collecting five runs to make it 7-3 in favor of the Chaps.
 
Torrey Hogan started in the circle for ASU, giving up seven hits seven runs, five earned, and striking out five batters.
 
The Belles fought back to send the game into extra innings again as Keilei Garcia hit a two-run home run in the sixth while Evans followed that up with a two-run homer in the seventh to tie the game.
 
After a single and a wild pitch but a runner of second for the Lady Chaps, LCU took the go ahead run on a groundout in the eighth to go up 8-7.
 
Armendariz finished the pitching for ASU, tossing three 1/3 innings with only one run on two hits.
 
The Belles and Chaps close out the series tomorrow with game three set for 1 p.m.
