CANYON, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team dropped two games on Saturday against West Texas A&M, falling 7-3 and 4-3 in Saturday's doubleheader at Wilder Park.
With the pair of losses, the Rams are now 41-8 overall on the year, 39-8 in Lone Star Conference play.
GAME ONE: WT 7, ASU 3
The Rams put two runs on the board in the first inning as
Jacob Guerrero hit a two-run home run after
Thomas Cain led the inning off with a walk.
WT found an answer immediately, scoring three runs in the first after four straight hits, including back-to-back doubles. The Buffs added to their lead in the third, scoring on a groundout second base.
Starting on the mound for the Rams was
Kade Bragg who picked up his first loss of the season, moving to 11-1 overall after allowing seven runs on 10 hits while striking out five batters.
Price Siemering tossed one inning in relief, not allowing a hit.
After another three-run inning by the Buffs on a home run, the Rams tallied a run in the seventh on a single by
Tyler Boggs but couldn't put any more offense together.
GAME TWO: WT 4, ASU 3
After three scoreless innings by both teams, the Rams struck first again in game two of the doubleheader as
Austin Beck hit a sac fly to Center field to score
Tripp Clark.
The Buffs took the lead in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double to left field before a single to right center made it 2-1.
In the sixth inning, the Rams tied the game as Beck singled on a bunt to the pitcher before Guerrero came around to score on a throwing error.
Aaron Munson was the game-two starter, throwing six 2/3 innings with four runs on six hits to go along with three punchouts. He moved to 5-2 overall on the season in decisions.
Tied heading into the seventh inning, the Rams took a brief lead on a single through the left side by Clark to score
Reese Johnson. The Buffs once again found an answer, scoring on a single to center field in the bottom half of the inning after a leadoff error put a runner on base.
The Rams will go for the series split and ASU and the Buffs wrap up the weekend with game four set for 1 p.m. tomorrow.
