Top-Seeded Rams Advance to Winner's Bracket with 11-3 Win Over LCU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-seeded Angelo State baseball team opened the second round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament with a victory, downing fourth-seeded Lubbock Christian 11-3 on Thursday night at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
The Rams opened in the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Tripp Clark doubled down the left field line to score Thomas Cain for the first run of the game.
 
ASU added another run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead when Tyler Boggs singled to left field, bringing home Justin Harris.
 
Kade Bragg started on the mound for the Rams, throwing six innings with two runs on five hits while striking out five batters. He earned the victory to improve to 12-1 overall on the year.
 
The Rams extended the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth as Austin Beck hit an RBI double off the center field wall before Jordan Williams singled to score Clark and give ASU a 4-0 lead.
 
Lubbock Christian got on the scoreboard in the sixth, hitting two solo home runs to make it 4-2.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, the Rams responded with a home run of their own as Harris sent a shot over the center field wall, scoring three runs to make it 7-2.
 
Mason Bryant threw one inning of relief without allowing a hit while Scott Ellis threw one inning with one run on one hit.
 
The Chaps got one run back in the eighth, scoring on an RBI single to left field.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, Jacob Guerrero hit a triple before scoring on a fielding error by the Chaps. Jordan Williams followed that up with a two-RBI double before Jackson Hardy brought him home on a single to left field to make it 11-3.
 
Caleb Heuertz closed out the game, throwing one inning without a hit and punching out two batters.
 
Friday's games have been moved up hour due to expected weather. The Rams will take on second-seed St. Edward's beginning at 2 p.m.
