SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team opens its postseason schedule this weekend at the Lone Star Conference Tournament on the campus of UT Tyler.
The Rambelles were named the eighth seed in the LSC Tournament after going 21-21 in conference play; overall, they finished with a 29-24 record in the regular season.
The Rambelles' opening-round matchup takes place on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against ninth-seed St. Edward's. The winner will then turn around to face top-ranked UT Tyler that evening in the LSC quarterfinals.
The Rambelles are hitting .278 as a team, with 56 home runs and 131 stolen bases.
Ashlyn Lerma leads the team with a .377 average and a .485 on-base percentage; she has swiped 58 bases this season, tied for the most in a single season in program history.
Bailey Martinez is hitting .341 this season, and
Paxton Scheurer is hitting .321 with a team-leading 15 home runs and 51 RBIs.
The Rambelle pitchers have a 3.03 ERA with 297 strikeouts in 358.2 innings this season; they also hold opponents to a .242 batting average.
Cheyenne Floyd leads the team with 111 strikeouts and a .217 opponent batting average and has recorded a 2.31 ERA this season.
Genesis Armendariz has notched 14 of the Rambelles' 29 victories this season and has pitched a team-high 140.2 innings this season.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
St. Edward's is 26-25 on the season and 20-22 in conference play; they are 3-7 in their past ten games and closed their regular season last weekend against Midwestern State, dropping two games on the road to the Mustangs.
The Hilltoppers are hitting .241 as a team and average 2.8 runs per game.
The Hilltopper pitching staff has a 2.68 ERA and has struck out 228 batters in 342 innings; they hold opponents to a .229 batting average.
Cadie Belle Currie has a 1.98 ERA and a 14-9 record this season; against the Rambelles, she picked up a win, throwing seven innings and allowing one run on five hits.
The Rambelles took two of three games from the Hilltoppers earlier this season, outscoring the Hilltoppers 10-3 in the two wins.
