LUBBOCK, Texas – The Angelo State track & field teams wrapped up day one of the 2023 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships with the eighth-ranked Rams in fifth place in the team scores while the seventh-ranked Rambelles are in fourth.
Joshua Body started the championship meet with a first-place finish, claiming the triple jump title with a mark of 14.91m (48-11).
Cole Paxton picked up some points for the Rams, finishing sixth overall in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.37m (165-3).
After day one of the decathlon,
Kyle Lumpkins sits in third overall with 3,506 points followed by
Simon Rey with 3,472 points.
Oussama El Bouchayby advanced to the finals of the 1,500-meter run after taking fourth overall in the prelims with a time of 4:06.77. The Rams had two runners advance in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles with Lumpkins taking fifth (14.58) and
Elvis Kryukov finishing sixth (14.65).
On the women's side, the Belles have five athletes in the top eight of the heptathlon after day one with
Maricia Spence leading the way with 3,216 points.
Abby Zamzow is in third with 3,017 points followed by
Allison Vaughn in fifth (2,915),
Anna Riccomagno in sixth (2,706) and
Kylie Frush in seventh (2,594).
Zamzow and Vaughn also scored in the women's triple jump, finishing fourth and fifth respectively with marks of 11.95m (39-2.5) and 11.94m (39-2) while
Maggie Morales took seventh in the event at 11.47m (37-7.5).
In the women's hammer throw,
Tiamara Hill-Johnson finished seventh with a toss of 45.45m (149-1).
The Belles had four athletes advance to the finals of the women's 100-meter hurdles, with Spence finishing second in the prelims at 14.15 while Zamzow took fifth at 14.89,
Ariyah Samuels finished sixth at 14.90 and Riccomagno finished in eighth at 15.11.
Also advancing was
Shiean Walters who finished the 200-meter dash in 24.24 to finish sixth overall.
The Rams and Belles continue the LSC championships tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
