Ram Basketball Adds Combo Guard Carvell Teasett to Incoming Class

SAN ANGELO – Head Coach Vinay Patel and the Ram Basketball program announces their seventh signing for the incoming 2023-24 signing class, with 6-foot-1 junior combo guard Carvell Teasett joining the Rams.

Teasett, a Baton Rouge, Louisiana product, comes to the Rams from Division I school Appalachian State in North Carolina.

"We are thrilled to add a player like Carvell to our recruiting class," said Patel. "He brings immediate experience to our backcourt and can play on and off the ball.  He's played against very good competition throughout college, playing in both the Sun Belt and Southland conferences."

Teasett averaged 2.7 points per game this past season for the Mountaineers and shot 33 percent from three-point range. His season-best performance came against Southeastern Louisiana on November 20th, scoring eight points and dishing out four assists.

"Carvell can flat shoot the basketball, and that is something our program really values," said Patel. "We look for guards that can do multiple things on the floor, and Carvell has also shown that he can pass the ball at a high level."

Before becoming a Mountaineer, Teasett played his first two seasons at Division I school Northwestern State in Louisiana. In his two seasons as a Demon, Teasett averaged 10.5 points per game while shooting 37.7 percent from three.

In his freshman season, Teasett played in all 29 games for the Demons; highlights of his season included scoring 16-straight second-half points against Houston Baptist on February 22, 2021, finishing the game with 25 points, as well as a 16-point outing against No. 1 Gonzaga.

His career-high of 27 points came against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on January 29th, 2022; he also scored 18 points of 6-for-10 shooting from three-point range against No. 1 Baylor on December 28th, 2021.

In his prep career, Teasett led Scotlandville High School to four-straight state championships and an 88-4 overall record in his last two seasons. He was a two-time all-state honoree while averaging nearly 20 points per game.

"Carvell has an infectious personality and will fit right into our locker room. He's played in some huge games all the way back to his high school playing career, and we know he can continue to help us raise the bar in our program," said Patel. "There is no doubt in our mind that his best basketball is ahead of him, and our staff is excited to work with him."

The 2022-2023 Rams finished 26-7 and made it to the second round of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.  The 26 wins were the second-most in program history and the most by a first-year head coach. The Rams also finished a perfect 13-0 inside the Junell Center – Stephens Area and finished first in the Lone Star Conference in home attendance.
