Canyon, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team suffered their first loss in two months on Thursday evening inside the First United Bank Center to No. 4 West Texas A&M, with the Buffs claiming an 88-73 victory over the Rams.
Kevon Godwin led the Rams with 21 points on 7-for-17 shooting from the field, making half of his six attempts from three and leading all players with six assists on the evening.
Willie Guy added 15 points, making a pair of threes, and grabbed five rebounds. He had three assists and recorded the Rams' only steal; he also set a new career-best with two blocked shots.
After going scoreless in the first half,
Keyshawn Embery-Simpson scored 14 points in the second half; the graduate student guard led the Rams with seven rebounds.
Trey Farrer had eight points and six rebounds,
Shemar Smith had seven points, and
DJ Basey had six points and five rebounds.
The Rams are now 12-2 on the season and 7-1 in conference play. They return to action on Saturday afternoon against Lubbock Christian, who are coming off a ten-point win over UT Permian Basin tonight.
