Rambelles Struggle Offensively, Lose to LCU 67-54

LUBBOCK, Texas - On an afternoon that saw the Rambelles shoot just 15 percent from three-point range, the Angelo State women's basketball team lost their first contest in six games to Lubbock Christian 67-54 at the Rip Griffin Center Saturday afternoon.
 
The Rambelles fall to 12-5 on the season and are now 6-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The Lady Chaps are now 11-3 overall and 6-1 in conference action.
 
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
  • The teams battled back and forth to start the game in a slow-developing first quarter, tied 5-5 at the 4:49 mark.
  •  Sawyer Lloyd would score the last points of the quarter for the Rambelles, giving them seven points down 7-13 going into the second quarter of action.
  • The Lady Chaps would go on an 8-3 run lasting the first five minutes of action, extending its lead out to 14, 24-10.
  • Briley Merket would get a layup at the end quarter to go down 12, 30-18 going into halftime.
  • To begin the second half, it was a basket for a basket until a steal by Lloyd and a Layup by Madeline Stephens made the score 37-31 in favor of the Lady Chaps.
  • Back-to-back threes from Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant would bring the game even, 39-39 at the 2:30 mark.
  • The Lady Chaps would go on a 5-0 run over the next 2:21 seconds to extend the lead out to 44-39.
  • Madi Lumsden would knock down a pair of free throws to trail by three, 44-41, going into the final quarter of action. 
  • LCU would start the final quarter out hot, extending its lead to 10, 59-49 with five minutes remaining.
  • The Lady Chaps would not look back, winning by 13, 67-54.
 
GAME STATS
  • The Lady Chaps defeated the Rambelles in Lone Star Conference action for the first time since 2021.
  • Stephens led the Rambelles with 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal.
  • McGhee-Pleasant would record her sixth double-double the year, knocking down 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
  • The Rambelles shot 33 percent (23-68) from the field, 15 percent (3-19) from behind the arc, and 71 percent (5-7) from the charity stripe.
  • LCU shot 40 percent (25-62) from the field, 42 percent (8-19) from three-point range, and 60 percent (9-15) from the free-throw line.
  • The Lady Chaps bested the Rambelles in the rebounding department, grabbing 45 to the Belles 40.
  • The loss snaps the Rambelles six-game winning streak.
