SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team took care of business on Dig Pink night inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena, sweeping Sul Ross State on Friday evening. The Belles won set one 25-9 before taking the following two sets 25-20 and 25-14.
The Belles hit .283 for the match and held the Lobos to a .074 mark. The opening frame saw the Belles only commit one error and hit .484.
The Belles also out-killed the Lobos 46-28 and had seven aces to the visitors' one. The Belles out-blocked SRSU 8-3 and narrowly out-dug them 63-58.
Julia Hopkins led all players with nine kills in two sets of play, hitting .261 for the match.
Evelyn Torres and
Madi Parrish each put down seven kills and only combined to commit one error. Torres hit .368, while Parrish notched a .429 attack percentage. Each had an ace and four digs.
Demi Carter converted six of her nine attack attempts for a .667 attack percentage, and fellow freshman
Sydney Thornton had four kills and four blocks.
Kaila Garnett had four kills and hit .500 in one set of action.
Alli Kirkpatrick had an all-around game, recording three kills, 11 assists, four blocks, and seven digs.
Marta Roicka led the Belles with 12 assists and had seven digs, while
Adeline Ortman had ten assists in the first set. Ortman led the match with a pair of aces.
Libero
Caleigh Enax led the Belles with 13 digs in two sets, and
Krizia Perez recorded eight digs.
Freshman
Taryn Barnes, the only Belle to play in all three sets, had one kill, one block, and three digs.
The Angelo State volleyball program also raised $3,860 in donations for the Side-Out Foundation.
The Belles improve to 17-2 on the season and 7-1 in conference play. They are back in action on Wednesday in Odessa, where they will take on UT Permian Basin.
