Big Performances from Ortman, Torres, Parrish Lift No. 14 Belles to Comeback Victory

SAN ANTONIO – The Angelo State volleyball team overcame a 2-1 set deficit to close their regular season road schedule with a five-set victory over St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon. The comeback thriller was powered by big performances by outside hitters Evelyn Torres, Madi Parrish, and setter Adeline Ortman, as the trio recorded double-doubles in the match.

The Rambelles took set one 25-18 before the Rattlers took sets two and three 25-22 and 25-16. The Belles staved off the hosts with a 25-14 win in set four before taking the final frame 15-12.

Torres started the match off hot, recording 11 kills in the first set. The graduate student had four kills in the pivotal fifth set and held serve as the Belles went on a 6-0 scoring run to overturn a three-point deficit into a three-point advantage.

Torres finished the match with 24 kills, one shy of her career-best; this is the fourth time she has broken the 20-kill threshold this season. She hit .300 for the match and had 18 digs as the Belles held the Rattlers to a .176 attack percentage.

Parrish got off to a slow start in the match, only recording a single kill in the first set; she would average five per set in the subsequent sets to finish with 21 kills. It is her third time this season tallying 20-plus kills.

Parrish had 14 digs, one shy of her season high, and hit .362 for the match.

Ortman assisted 56 times and had 18 digs, one off her career high. This is her fifth match this season with 50 or more assists and her eighth double-double. She added in a pair of aces.

Demi Carter had seven kills, while Sydney Thornton had six kills and five blocks.

Kaila Garnett and Hannah Spencer each added four kills in two sets of action off the bench.

Libero Caleigh Enax led the Belles with 19 digs, and Ireland Ferguson added 13 digs off the bench.

The Belles improve to 21-2 on the season and 11-1 in LSC play. They finish with a 10-1 road record for the regular season.

The Belles play their final four matches in San Angelo, beginning with Cameron and Oklahoma Christian next Friday and Saturday, respectively.
