Rambelles fall to UTPB 67-57

ODESSA, TEXAS - The Angelo State women's basketball team fell to UT Permian Basin 67-57 inside the Falcon Dome Saturday afternoon to begin Lone Star Conference play.
 
With the loss, the Rambelles move to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference action, while the Falcons improve to 3-1 overall and open LSC play with a win.
 
40 Minute Rundown
  • The Falcons started the game on a 12-0 run lasting 6:07.
  • The Belles scored their first points at the 3:17 marker of the first quarter when freshman Majik Esquivel drained a three-pointer to bring the deficit back down to single digits.
  • Esquivel scored her fifth point of the first quarter as time expired to bring the Rambelles deficit to 16-12 going into the second quarter.
  • Esquivel scored the first four points of the second quarter for the Rambelles making the score 23-18 in favor of the Falcons with 3:53 remaining in the half.
  • Lauren Catherman hit back-to-back free throws with one second remaining on the clock to bring the Falcons lead to 32-29 at halftime. 
  • Landry Morrow would start the scoring for the Rambelles at the 9:09 marker in the third quarter.
  • The Falcons went on a 16-2 run lasting seven minutes to end the third quarter extending their lead to 54-39 going into the final quarter of action.
  • The Rambelles would go on a 13-0 run to bring the deficit back to seven, 59-52, with three minutes remaining in the contest. 
  •  The Falcons iced the game when they would call for a timeout with 30 seconds remaining to end the game with a 67-57 victory.

  • Esquivel would record her career high in scoring with 18 points leading the team.
  • After recording her first double-double of the year Keniah Williams recorded six points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks giving her a conference lead with eight blocks. 
  • The Rambelles had eight different scores in the contest.
  • The Blue and Gold shot 37.5 percent (21-56) from the field, 21 percent (4-19) from behind the arc, and 84 percent (11-13) from the free throw line.
  • The Rambelles were out rebounded 40-31 in the contest.
