No. 7 Belles Win South Central Championship with Four-Set Win over Roadrunners

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team claimed its second-ever South Central Regional Championship with a four-set win over MSU Denver on Sunday afternoon inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena.

With the win, the Rambelles advance to the Division II Elite Eight in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Belles' stout defense held the Roadrunners to a .104 attack percentage in the first two sets, which the Belles would win 25-19 and 27-25.

The Roadrunners would fight back to win set three 25-20 before a back-and-forth set saw the Belles claim the championship with a 30-28 win.

The Belles controlled much of the match from the service line with six aces and only six service errors to the Roadrunners' four aces and 13 errors.

Madi Parrish led the Belles with 17 kills and added eight digs. Evelyn Torres recorded a double-double with 13 kills and ten digs.

Sydney Thornton had nine kills and six blocks, while Demi Carter had seven kills on a .250 hitting percentage.

Only playing in the fourth set, Kaila Garnett added four kills and combined with Thornton for the championship-sealing block.

Adeline Ortman recorded a double-double with 39 assists and 11 digs.

Caleigh Enax led the Belles with 21 digs and assisted eight times. Ireland Ferguson had 12 digs as well as four assists and an ace.

The win is the Belles' first regional championship since 2016, where they defeated MSU Denver that season inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena to win the region. The win also avenges the Belles' loss to the Roadrunners in last season's South Central regional semifinal.

Five Belles – Parrish, Ortman, Torres, Carter, and Enax – were named to the All-South Central Region Tournament Team.

The win improves the Belles' record to 31-2 on the season. They advance to the Elite Eight in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, this upcoming weekend and will learn the identity of their national quarterfinal opponent later this week.
