Rams Ride Hot Shooting Night to 80-71 Victory over Aggies

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team returned to the win column on Thursday evening with an 80-71 win over Cameron inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena.

The Rams shot 51 percent from the field and 57.9 percent from three; the Rams' hot shooting started from the jump, with the Rams making four of their first five shots, all from three, to pull out a 12-2 lead on the Aggies.

The Aggies hit a last-second shot to enter halftime with a 32-31 lead and would expand their lead to as much as six points early in the second half; however, the Rams responded with a 13-2 run to take a five-point lead, which they held onto for the remainder of the contest.

Keyshawn Embery-Simpson led all players with 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field; the graduate student guard converted on five of his six attempts from three-point range.

Kevon Godwin scored 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting and 4-of-8 from deep; the senior also nabbed six steals on the defensive end.

His 19 points see him pass Johnny Spriggs for 12th all-time on the ASU career scoring list. Now at 1,028 career points, Godwin needs another 19 points on Saturday to pass David Milburn for 11th on the career scoring list.

Willie Guy turned in a complete, all-around performance with 17 points on 4-of-8 shooting, making two of his three attempts from three-point range. Guy led the Rams with eight rebounds and six assists as well.

The Rams improve to 16-8 on the season and 11-7 in conference play; they play their home finale on Saturday against Midwestern State, who are coming off a close loss to UT Permian Basin this evening.
