NORMAN, Okla. – The Angelo State track & field teams kicked off the 2024 Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships on Friday with the sixth-ranked Rambelles claiming two titles.
The Rams sit in third with 35 team points while the Belles are in second with 66 team points.
The Belles scored early as they swept the top three spots in the pentathlon as
Maricia Spence claimed her third straight title in the event with 3,950 points. Coming in second was
Anna Riccomagno with 3,781 points followed by
Abby Zamzow in third with 3,714 points.
Spence won two events, running 8.65 in the 60-meter hurdles while tossing a mark of 13.14m (43'-1.50") in the shot put while Riccomagno claimed the top jump in the high jump at 1.67m (5'-5.75"). Zamzow finished second in the long jump at 5.84m (19'-2") and had three other top five finishes.
In the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, the Belles qualified five runners to the finals, including four of the top five, with Spence leading with a time of 8.64. Following her was
Ariyah Samuels in third, Zamzow in fourth,
Averie Griffith in fifth and Riccomagno in eighth.
Zamzow claimed the title in the long jump with a jump of 5.89m (19'-04") followed by Spence (5.71m | 18'-8.75") in second while
Kylie Frush (5.69m | 18'-8") finished in fourth.
Fatoumata Kabo led the 400-meter prelim, running a time of 55.39 to qualify for the finals along with
Shadae Findley who finished third at 55.65. Findley also qualified in the 800-meter run, earning a time of 2:19.21 to take fifth.
Jacent Nyamahunge qualified in the 60-meter dash, running a time of 7.64 to take fifth in the prelims while also finishing fifth in the 200-meter dash, qualifying with a time of 24.80.
In the DMR, the Belles finished fifth overall as
Mary Brown, Frush,
Allison Vaughn, and
Anna Eischen combined for a time of 12:56.42.
Tiamara Hill-Johnson scored in the weight throw, tossing a mark of 14.08m (46'-2.50") to take eighth overall.
In the pole vault,
Kylyie Paden finished second overall, clearing a height of 3.55m (11'-7.75"), while
Camryn Barros (3.40m | 11'-1.75") took fifth and
Katelyn Bohensky (3.40m | 11'-1.75") took sixth.
On the men's side,
Elvis Kryukov sits in first after day one of the heptathlon, holding a score of 3,144 points while
Mark Burdin is in third with 3,004 points.
Kyle Lumpkins (2,721) holds the sixth spot followed by Benjamin Blomqvist (2,457) in eighth.
Lumpkins also qualified for the finals on the 60-meter hurdles, taking seventh in the prelims with a time of 8.25.
The Rams had three runners finish in the top eight of the 60-meter dash prelims as
David Morgan finished second overall at 6.76 while
Solomon Odonkor and
Dorian Leda tied for seventh at 6.86.
Odonkor and Morgan also qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash, finishing third and fourth respectively with times of 22.15 and 22.23.
Cole Paxton earned silver in the men's weight throw, tossing a mark of 18.13m (59'-05.75") while
Luis Alvarado finished fourth with a throw of 16.41m (53'-10.25").
Earning second overall in the pole vault was
Jacobee Jones who cleared a height of 5.17m (16'-11.50") while Lumpkins finished fourth at 4.65m (15'-3") and
Mark Burdin took sixth at 4.35m (14'-3.25"). Burdin also scored in the men's long jump, earning a mark of 6.61m (21'-8.25") to finish seventh.
The Rams qualified two runners in the 400-meter prelim as
Tristan Guerrero ran the second fastest time at 48.74 while
Max Wassmer finished eighth at 49.97.
In the high jump,
Josh Body finished seventh overall with a jump of 1.93m (6'-04") while Lumpkins took eighth at 1.89m (6'-2.25").
The men's DMR team of
Wesley Rogers,
Romel Plummer,
Tate Hughes, and
Austin Souther ran a time of 11:07.69 to finish eighth.
The Rams and the Belles conclude the indoor championships tomorrow with the decathlon continuing at 10:30 a.m.
