Rams Down Mustangs in Overtime Behind Big Scoring Efforts from Embery-Simpson, Guy

Silver City, N.M. – The Angelo State men's basketball team claimed their first road win in the 2024 calendar year, needing an extra five minutes to do so as the Rams defeated Western New Mexico 98-91 in overtime on Saturday afternoon on Drag's Court.

The Rams were down two points in the last minute of regulation, with a Shemar Smith bucket tying the game with 26 seconds to force overtime. In overtime, the Rams outscored the hosts 14-7, including going 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

The Rams shot 43.7 percent from the field, 44 percent from three, and 80.6 percent from the free throw line; they only committed nine turnovers and assisted on 17 of their 31 made field goals.

Keyshawn Embery-Simpson led all players with 33 points on 10-of-23 shooting from the field; the graduate student guard made three three-pointers and was perfect on ten attempts from the charity stripe.

Embery-Simpson also grabbed seven rebounds and led the Rams with five assists; this is Embery-Simpson's third 30-point game as a Ram, tied for seventh-most 30-point games in program history.
Willie Guy established a new career high with 21 points; the senior point guard was an efficient 6-of-9 from the field and made four out of his five attempts from three.

Trey Farrer had 17 points and had a team-high eight rebounds; Smith joined his teammates in double figures with 11 points, including the game's tying basket to force overtime, and grabbed five rebounds.

The Rams improve to 15-6 on the season and 10-5 in LSC play; they are back home next weekend as they host Lubbock Christian and No. 1 West Texas A&M.
