SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team opens its home schedule this weekend when they host their annual tournament, the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge. The action starts on Friday at noon when Regis takes on Texas A&M International. The Rambelles play in the next two games, taking on the Dustdevils first before closing day one with the Rangers.
Day two starts at 11 a.m. with the Dustdevils and the Rangers going head-to-head. The Rambelles take on Regis at 1:30 and International at 4 p.m. to close the weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles went 5-1 to open their season at the DII First Pitch Invitational in Conroe this past weekend; they opened the weekend with a 4-2 win over No. 17 Wingate, and their only loss of the weekend came against No. 19 Rogers State.
The Rambelles hit .337 as a team, averaging 6.2 runs per game. Six Rambelles are hitting above .300 through the opening weekend, two are above .400, and one is above .500.
The Rambelles conceded an average of 4.2 runs per game and struck out 44 batters in 42 innings. Cheyenne Flloyd struck out 22 batters in 15.2 innings of work, while
Averie Gunther only allowed three hits in 9.2 innings inside the circle.
TROTTER NAMED LSC HITTER OF THE WEEK
Rambelles right fielder
Tatiana Trotter was named the LSC's Hitter of the Week for her performance at the plate in Conroe. Trotter hit .556 and slugged .944. She opened her weekend by hitting a sixth-inning, two-run home run that gave the Rambelles a 4-2 win over Wingate. She had two extra-base hits and drove in five runs in the Rambelles' 9-6 victory over Arkansas Tech. She went a combined 5-for-7 with three RBIs against Rogers State and Colorado Mesa.
This is the first weekly conference honor for Trotter and the first for the Rambelles since
Ashlyn Lerma earned the honor on February 28th last year.
Trotter, who had ten hits over the weekend, is halfway to matching her hit total from her freshman season.
George and Ola McCorkle Challenge
The Rambelles' opponents this weekend, Texas A&M International and Regis, were in Conroe last weekend, competing at the DII First Pitch Invitational. The Dustdevils went 3-3 on the weekend, while the Rangers recorded a 2-4 record.
The Dustdevils' first five games of the weekend were decided by one run; they defeated Central Washington 2-1 before dropping 1-0 to Washburn. They then defeated MSU Denver 3-2 and dropped their next two games to Wingate and Colorado Mesa by 4-3 and 5-4 scorelines, respectively. The Dustdevils closed their weekend with a 6-1 win over Cal Poly Humboldt.
The Dustdevils are hitting .262 as a team and slugging .322; they reach base at a .333 clip. They feature three players hitting above .300 on the season, led by Kennedy Griego's .500 average. The sophomore third baseman closed her opening weekend of the season by going 7-for-10 from the plate in her last three games. Katelyn Luera has a .417 average, and Alex Hernandez is hitting .389 with the Dustdevils' lone home run this season.
The Dustdevils' pitching staff owns a 1.38 ERA inside the circle, led by Erika Cortez's 0.95; opponents are only hitting .157 against the senior from Rio Hondo. Kylie Goad leads the team with seven strikeouts, and Carla Arellano has a 1.91 ERA in 11 innings of work.

The Rambelles played the Dustdevils six times last season - three times at the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge and three times in conference play in Laredo - and the Rambelles went 5-1, winning all three games in San Angelo and the first two in Laredo. As a head coach,
Travis Scott has defeated the Dustdevils 62 times - the most wins against a single program. His .912 winning record is his second-best win percentage against a single team.
Regis went 2-4 to open their season in Conroe, with their wins coming over Midwestern State and St. Edward's.
The Rangers are hitting .243 as a team, averaging 4.1 runs per game. The Rangers have more walks and hit-by-pitches than strikeouts this season. They have two hitters - Miia Campos and Rachel Barriga - hitting above .400 this season. Campos has a .476 average with three extra-base hits and has not struck out in 21 at-bats; she also leads the team with six RBIs. Barriga is hitting .400 and has one of the two Rangers' home runs this season; she has drawn four walks and been hit by two pitches for a team-best .625 on-base percentage.
The Rangers pitchers have a 4.41 ERA and an opponent batting average of .315; they have struck out 19 batters in 39.2 innings of work.
