SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team earned a win in the first game at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium, defeating Cameron 7-1 on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Rams improve to 3-2 overall and in Lone Star Conference play.
The Rams scored in the first inning as
Tripp Clark launched a ball over the left field wall for a solo home run.
Cameron answered back in the top of the second, tying the game on a single to left field.
ASU regained the lead in the third as Clark collected his second RBI of the game, grounding out to the short stop, scoring
Ryder McDaniel on the play.
The Rams took control in the fourth inning as
Weston Valasek brought in two runs on a triple to right center. McDaniel reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Valasek before
Blake Wilhoite layed down a sac-bunt for an RBI to make it 6-1 in favor of ASU.
Braxton Pearson started on the mound for the Blue & Gold, tossing seven innings with one run on five hits and eight strikeouts to pick up the win.
The Rams added another run in the sixth as Wilhoite reached on a fielder's choice as
Jacob Guerrero scored on the play.
Seth Foster threw two innings in relief, giving up one hit and two walks with no runs scored.
The Rams and Aggies continue the series with a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.
