SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team has a quick turnaround this week as they host Texas A&M-Kingsville in a three-game series, starting tomorrow at Mayer Field.
The series begins with a doubleheader on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before closing with a single game on Wednesday at noon.
LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles took two out of three games against Eastern New Mexico in Portales last weekend, dropping game one 3-1 before taking the final two games by 10-2 and 4-0 score lines.
The Rambelles scored first in game one an
Averie Gunther RBI single; however, the Greyhounds would homer to tie the game before scoring two runs in the fifth inning to take the 3-1 win.
Multi-hit performances from
Layni Tanner,
Laylonna Applin,
Tatiana Trotter and
Keilei Garcia propelled the offense to a 10-2 run-rule win.
Trotter doubled in a run to open the series finale in the first inning, and
Zoey De Baca turned in an RBI double the next inning to score two runs. Garcia hit a solo home run, her sixth of the season, to make the game's score line 4-0.
The Rambelles hit .297 as a team, averaging 5.1 runs per game. The Rambelles are second in Division II with 15 triples hit this season, which exceeds their total from a season ago. The Rambelles also rank seventh in the country, having been hit by 26 pitches this season.
Tatiana Trotter is fifth in the LSC with 27 RBI;
Layni Tanner and Trotter lead the LSC with four triples and are sixth nationally in that category.
The Rambelles have a 2.17 team ERA, third-best in the LSC, and lead the league with six saves. They have struck out 166 batters in 181 innings, the most strikeouts in the leage, and opponents only hit .238 against the Rambelles, the third-best mark in the LSC.
Cheyenne Floyd leads Division II with 12 wins this season, exceeding her win total from a season ago, and is eighth in the country with 99 strikeouts.
Matie Wolkow is second in the country with four saves this season.

Texas A&M-Kingsville is 19-7 overall on the season and 12-6 in LSC play. They are coming off a series against Cameron where they took the first two games before dropping the series finale to the Aggies, 4-2, in nine innings. The Javelinas are 4-5 on the road this season, having lost their last two road conference series.
The Javelinas opened their season at the Mardi Gras Invitational in Lafayette, Louisiana, where they went 3-1 with wins over ranked opponents Southern Arkansas and Central Oklahoma. Their second weekend saw them compete in the West Texas Invitational, where they went 4-0 and averaged nearly 11 runs per game against RMAC competition.
They have claimed series wins over St. Edward's and Cameron while completing sweeps of Western New Mexico and Texas A&M International.
The Javelinas are hitting .309, the fourth-highest team average in the LSC. They score 5.9 runs per game and are second in the league with 24 home runs this season, slugging .479 as a team. The Greyhounds have five players hitting above .300 on the season; Breana Carr leads the team with a .411 average and has stolen six bases this season. TAMUK's pitching staff has a 3.70 team ERA this season, seventh in the LSC. Opponents hit .273 against Javelina pitchers this season, and they have struck out 98 batters in 176 innings inside the circle. Carissa De Los Santos leads the team with a 3.33 ERA and a .261 opponent batting average, while Beth Montes has a 9-4 record on the season and has struck out 63 batters in 81.1 innings.
Defensively, their .964 fielding percentage is sixth in the LSC. They have allowed 28 stolen bases and have thrown out five baserunners.
