SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 11
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team split Saturday's doubleheader against Lubbock Christian, falling in game one 10-5 before coming back to win game three 10-3 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Field.
With the split, the Rams move to 22-10 overall on the season and 21-10 in Lone Star Conference play.
Game 1: LCU 10, ASU 5
Lubbock Christian scored in the first at-bat of the game, hitting a solo home run to left field for an early advantage.
The Rams tallied four runs in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead, scoring on an error before
Conagher Sands doubled to center to score
Jacob Guerrero.
Tayten Tredaway brought in a run on a groundout followed by an RBI single by
Kamden Kelton.
The Chaps added another solo homer in the second before the Rams scored again off the bat of
Weston Valasek in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-2.
LCU took the lead in the third inning, scoring four runs capped off by a three-RBI home run.
Alezeah Gutierrez started on the mound for the Rams, picking up the loss to move to 5-3 on the season after throwing 5 1/3 innings with 10 runs on 11 hits and eight strikeouts.
The Chaps continued to hit the long ball in the sixth inning, hitting a two-run homer followed by a two-run single.
Jude Cook tossed 1 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one hit and a walk with a strikeout.
Game 2: ASU 10, LCU 3
The Chaps collected a run in the opening inning once again, scoring on a double down the left field line.
The Rams answered back with three runs in the bottom of the first as
Justin Harris scored on a wild pitcher before an RBI single by
Tripp Clark while Kelton grounded out, scoring Clark on the play.
Scoring continued for ASU in the second inning, scoring once again on a wild pitch before back-to-back RBI doubles by Guerrero and Clark to make it 6-1.
Lubbock Christian put up two runs in the top of the third inning off singles up the middle and to right field to make it a three-run game.
Dax Dathe tossed six 2/3 innings on the mound for the Rams, striking out 12 batters while allowing two runs on only five hits.
The Rams extended the lead in the fourth inning as Clark doubled down the left field line to score Guerrero to make it 7-3.
In the sixth, Clark brought in another run on a single to left field before a groundout and bases-loaded hit by pitch gave the Rams a seven run lead.
The Rams and Chaps will close out the series with game four tomorrow at 1 p.m.
