LCU Takes Game Four to Split with 11th-Ranked Rams

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 11th-ranked Angelo State baseball team finished with a series split against Lubbock Christian on Sunday, falling in game four of the series 15-10 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
The loss moves the Rams to 22-11 overall on the season, and 21-11 in Lone Star Conference play.
 
Lubbock Christian jumped ahead early, leading off with a solo home run before adding another run on a groundout. The Chaps put up two runs in each of the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead.
 
The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the third inning as Jacob Guerrero hit a two-RBI double to right center. The Chaps got out of the bases-loaded situation, turning a double play to end the inning.
 
In the fifth inning, the Rams added another run on a wild pitch that brought home Guerrero.
 
The Chaps answered in the top of the sixth, scoring two more runs on a couple of RBI singles to make it 8-3.
 
With one out and bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Guerrero brought in a couple more runs on a double down the left field line before Tripp Clark singled to score Justin Harris. LCU got out of the jam once again, turning a double play to keep it a two-run game.
 
Caleb Heuertz tossed 3 1/3 innings of relief for the Rams, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
 
The Chaps answered back in the top of the seventh inning, hitting back-to-back solo home runs to lead off the inning before adding a two-run homer to go up 12-6. LCU extended the lead in the eighth, putting up three more runs on an RBI single and a two-RBI double to hold a nine-run lead.
 
After adding a run in the bottom of the eighth on a sac-fly by Valasek, the Rams continued to fight, putting up three runs in the ninth, two coming off a double by Justin Harris.
 
Guerrero led the Rams at the plate, going 4-for-5 on the day with five RBIs and two doubles.
 
The Rams will play one nonconference game next week, hosting Wayland Baptist on Tuesday, March 26th at 3 p.m., while having next weekend off as a bye week.
