SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team is on the road for the first time in March as they travel west to the Land of Enchantment to take on a high-powered Eastern New Mexico team this weekend.
The series, originally scheduled for Friday-Saturday, has been pushed back a day due to forecasted incliment weather in Portales.
The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. central time before closing with a single game on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. central time.
LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles took two out of three games against Oklahoma Christian at Mayer Field this weekend, dropping game one 6-1 before bouncing back with a pair of 4-1 wins.
The Rambelles allowed the first run of the game on an error in the first inning and could not break through until the seventh inning when they were already down 6-0.
A clutch two-RBI single from
Zoey De Baca in the second inning of game two, paired with sacrifice flies from
Averie Gunther and
Tatiana Trotter, evened the series with a 4-1 win.
The Eagles scored first in game three on a solo home run;
Laylonna Applin tied the game in the fourth inning with a solo home run before
Layni Tanner drove in two runs on a triple, and Tanner scored later in the inning on a De Baca sacrifice fly.
The Rambelles hit .291 as a team, averaging 5.2 runs per game. The Rambelles are second in Division II with 14 triples hit this season, which exceeds their total from a season ago. The Rambelles also rank fourth in the country, having been hit by 23 pitches this season.
Tatiana Trotter is fifth in the LSC with 24 RBI;
Layni Tanner leads the LSC with four triples and is fourth nationally in that category.
The Rambelles have a 2.25 team ERA, third-best in the LSC, and lead the league with six saves. They have struck out 145 batters in 162 innings, and opponents only hit .243 against the Rambelles, the fourth-best mark in the LSC.
Cheyenne Floyd leads Division II with 11 wins this season, exceeding her win total from a season ago, and is eighth in the country with 83 strikeouts.
Matie Wolkow is second in the country with four saves this season.

Eastern New Mexico is 14-9 on the season and 7-8 in conference play; they have lost their last five games, with three of those losses coming by three runs or less. The Greyhounds are 4-2 at home this season, with a sweep of St. Edward's and a win over Lubbock Christian accounting for the four wins.
ENMU opened their season with a 7-1 record, facing all RMAC competitors and claiming four run-rule victories.
The Greyhounds are hitting .355, the second-highest team average in the LSC. They score 7.9 runs per game and lead the league with 28 home runs this season, slugging .606 as a team. The Greyhounds have two players hitting above .400 on the season; Taighan Whitzel is second in the league with a .556 batting average, and her eight home runs lead the LSC. Alondra Vasquez is hitting .442 with seven home runs and a team-high 31 RBI, and Samantha Gutierrez has hit five home runs this season.
ENMU's pitching staff has a 4.80 team ERA this season, the fifth-worst in the LSC. Opponents hit .294 against Greyhound pitchers this season, and they have struck out 81 batters in 137 innings inside the circle. Marissa Rodriguez leads the team with a 3.57 ERA, while Emma Southerland has thrown six complete games and owns a 6-2 record.
Defensively, catcher Samantha Gutierrez leads the league with nine baserunners caught stealing.

As head coach,
Travis Scott is 60-8 all-time versus the Greyhounds; the Rambelles have not lost in Portales since 2015. Last season, the Rambelles won two out of three games against ENMU in San Angelo, winning the series opener 3-1 and the series finale 4-1, while the Greyhounds took the middle game of the series with a 9-5 victory, which snapped ASU's 15-game winning streak against ENMU.
