Gutierrez, Dathe Toss Gems in Doubleheader Sweep of Eagles

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 20 Angelo State baseball team complete the doubleheader sweep of Oklahoma Christian thanks to gems tossed by Alezeah Gutierrez and Dax Dathe on a sunny Saturday afternoon in the confines of Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
With the win, the Rams go to a 16-8 (15-8 LSC) record while the Eagles fall to a 3-18 (3-16) record.

GAME ONE: ASU 3, OCU 0:
The first game of the doubleheader belonged to Alezeah Gutierrez as he pitched a complete game shutout, his first of the season, where he allowed one hit – a double – and three walks while striking out a season-high 12 batters on his way to clinching his fourth win of the season.

At the plate, the Blue and Gold struck first in the second inning with a Weston Valasek double that scored Ryder McDaniel from second base. The Rams added the final two runs of the game in the ensuing inning with Tripp Clark singling to left to score Hunter Holt and in the next at-bat, Tayten Tredaway singled through the right side which scored Jacob Guerrero.

GAME TWO: ASU 5, OCU 1:
Starting pitching and the heart of the Rams lineup highlighted game two of the afternoon doubleheader Dax Dathe entered the game from the bullpen in the top of the first to follow Clayton Broeder, who left two runners on with one out. The Lone Star Conference leader in strikeouts did what he does best, eliminating the threat with a strikeout. He went on to allow an unearned run off two hits and no walks while striking out six batters through 6.2 innings of work to earn his fourth win of the season.

On offense, the big three of Jacob Guerreo, Tripp Clark and Weston Valasek, shined at the plate, as they collected seven total hits in the ballgame. Guerrero and Clark reached base in all three of their respective plate appearances and scored all five runs while Valasek brought three of said runs in with a couple of base hits.

The Rams will look to complete the series sweep on Sunday, Mar. 10 with the first pitch against the Eagles scheduled for 1 p.m. in the confines of Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
