No. 21 Rambelles to Face Lubbock Christian

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team is on the road this weekend as it enters the final stretch of the regular season. This weekend, they will travel to Lubbock to face Lubbock Christian.

The series will start with the two teams meeting on Saturday at 3 p.m. for a single game. They will then close the series with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Sunday.  

LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles took two out of three games from Texas A&M International to close their home schedule with a 22-3 record.

Two-run home runs by Keilei Garcia, Averie Gunther, and Abby Brand highlighted a 9-1 win in six innings in game one. 

The Rambelles lineup struggled in game two, being shut out by Kylie Goad. They only scored two hits and three walks against the Dustdevils' right-hander. 

The Rambelles returned to form in their home finale, leaving the yard three more times as they cruised to an 8-0 win in five innings. Zoey De Baca homered twice, Ashton McMillan had two hits, and Ashton Dirner drove in two runs without recording an official at bat. 

The Rambelles hit .289 as a team, averaging 4.8 runs per game. The Rambelles are second in Division II with 22 triples hit this season, more than doubling their total from a season ago. The Rambelles also rank ninth in the country, having been hit by 43 pitches this season. Averie Gunther has been plunked 17 times, the second-most in the country this season. 
Tatiana Trotter is second in the country with eight triples this season, a new single-season record at Angelo State. De Baca leads the conference with five sacrifice flies this season, and Dirner's 17 stolen bases are the most in the league. 

The Rambelles have a 1.89 team ERA, second-best in the LSC, and lead the league with eight saves. They have struck out 238 batters in 303.1 innings, and opponents only hit .232 against the Rambelles, the fourth-best mark in the LSC. 

Cheyenne Floyd is tied for the lead in Division II with 20 wins this season, more than twice her win total from a season ago. She also leads the LSC with a 1.18 ERA and is the first Rambelle pitcher since 2018 to reach the 20-win mark in a season.

Lubbock Christian is 21-16 on the season and 20-13 in LSC play; they are currently sixth in the conference standings. The Lady Chaps are 11-4 on their home field this season and have won their past four series at home after dropping their first one to Oklahoma Christian back on February 16-17. 

The Lady Chaps are coming off a road trip in which they went 3-3 against No. 1 West Texas A&M and Cameron, dropping two out of three to the Lady Buffs before taking two from the Aggies. 

Lubbock Christian is hitting .307 as a team, fourth-best in the LSC, and averages five runs scored per game. Their lineup puts the ball in play, having only struck out 129 times this season, the second-fewest in the league. The lineup features five players hitting above .300, led by Tianna Delrosario's .388 average. The graduate student leads the team with 15 walks drawn this season. Skylar Herrera has hit ten home runs this season and driven in 30 runs, with both marks leading the LCU lineup. 

LCU's pitching staff has a 2.89 team ERA and has struck out 173 batters in 237.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .248 against the Lady Chaps, the fifth-best in the conference this season. The pitching staff is led by Maxine Valdez, who has a 9-5 record with a 2.41 ERA. She has struck out 84 batters in 84.1 innings of work; opponents only hit .176 against the graduate student pitcher. 

Defensively, they have a .954 fielding percentage, the fifth-worst in the LSC. They have only allowed 26 stolen bases this season and have caught ten baserunners stealing. 

LAST TIME VS. LCU
As head coach, Travis Scott is 10-5 all-time versus the Lady Chaps. Last season, LCU claimed two out of three games in the series in San Angelo, with both wins coming by one-run margins. The Rambelles are 3-1 all-time in Lubbock.

The Rambelles will have their bye week before closing the regular season with No. 1 West Texas A&M in Canyon on April 26-27.
