No. 22 Rambelles Embark on LSC Tournament

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team opens postseason play this weekend when it travels back to Canyon as the three-seed in the LSC Tournament. They open their weekend on Friday at 11 a.m. when they take on Lubbock Christian, who is on the bubble for the NCAA South Central regional. 

The winner will face either UT Tyler or ENMU/TWU in the semifinals on Friday evening, and the championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles closed the regular season in Canyon, taking the series finale off the nation's top-ranked team. 

The series started with a back-and-forth contest, with the Lady Buffs taking the lead in the bottom of the sixth and holding on for a 7-6 win. 

The Rambelles' three runs in game two came via a two-run home run from Tatiana Trotter and a solo shot from Lauren De La Cruz

The Rambelles ended the series on a high note, scoring five times in the third and four times in the fourth for a 10-7 win. Averie Gunther and Abby Brand each turned in multi-hit games in the win.

The Rambelles hit .288 as a team, averaging 4.9 runs per game. The Rambelles are second in Division II with 24 triples hit this season. The Rambelles also rank 13th in the country, having been hit by 47 pitches this season. 

Averie Gunther has been plunked 19 times, the sixth-most in the country this season. 

Trotter is second in the country with nine triples this season, a new single-season record at Angelo State., and Zoey De Baca leads the conference with five sacrifice flies this season.

The Rambelles have a 2.33 team ERA, third-best in the LSC, and lead the league with ten saves. They have struck out 261 batters in 342.1 innings, and opponents only hit .244 against the Rambelles, the fourth-best mark in the LSC. 

Cheyenne Floyd leads the LSC with 20 wins this season, more than twice her win total from a season ago. She is fifth in the league with a 1.75 ERA and is the first Rambelles pitcher since 2018 to reach the 20-win mark in a season. Teammate Matie Wolkow leads the league with five saves this season, tied for third-most in a single season in program history.

Lubbock Christian is 25-21 overall on the season and 24-18 in LSC play; they are the sixth seed in the tournament and were ranked eighth in the NCAA South Central regional rankings. They are coming off a weekend when they were swept by UT Tyler in East Texas. LCU is 1-3 in neutral site games this season. 

The Lady Chaps are hitting .305 as a team and averages five runs scored per game. Their lineup features five players hitting above .300, paced by Tiarra Delrosario's .380 batting average. Skylar Herrera leads the team with 11 home runs and 34 runs driven in, and Kamryn Gibbs leads the squad with 11 stolen bases this season. 

LCU's pitching staff has a 2.83 team ERA, fifth in the LSC, and has struck out 228 batters in 294.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .247 against the Lady Buffs, the sixth-best in the conference this season. The pitching staff is led by senior Maxine Valdez, who is 11-7 on the season with a 2.14 ERA. Opponents are only hitting .196 against the right-hander, and she has struck out 120 batters in 118 innings. 

The Lady Chaps have a .953 team fielding percentage, the lowest of any team in the tournament. They have turned 14 double plays and thrown out 11 baserunners on 43 attempted steals. 

LAST TIME VS. LCU
As head coach, Travis Scott is 12-6 all-time versus LCU. Earlier this season, the Rambelles went up to Lubbock and took two out of three games from the Lady Chaps. Junior Amelia Hatthorn shined inside the circle, collecting a save and a win in the series versus LCU. 

THE REST OF THE FIELD
West Texas A&M and UT Tyler were regular season co-champions, with the Lady Buffs taking the top spot courtesy of their conference-opening sweep over the Patriots back in February. 

WT will face the winner of the Texas A&M-Kingsville/Cameron play-in game, while UTT will face the Texas Woman's/Eastern New Mexico winner. 

The ASU/LCU winner will take on either UT Tyler or TWU/ENMU in the semifinals on Friday evening. 

Oklahoma Christian and St. Mary's are the four-five matchup, with the winner playing either West Texas A&M or TAMUK/Cameron in the semifinals. 

The championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
