NEW ORLEANS – Angelo State track & field's
Maricia Spence was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after her performance at the David Noble Relays.
Spence, a senior economics major, led the seventh-ranked Rambelles to a win at the Relays, scoring 5,791 points in the heptathlon which leads all of Division II by nearly 400 points. She also recorded the second-best long jump at 6.22m (20-5) and ranks third in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.62. Spence also helped the Rambelles set a new program record in the 4x100-meter relay, running a time of 45.37 which is fourth in Division II.
Spence is the third athlete from Angelo State to be named as the Female National Athlete of the Week along with Kami Norton and Daisey Osakue.
