No. 20 Rambelles Compete at South Central Regional

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team travels to Canyon for the third successive week as they take part in the program's 18th NCAA Tournament this weekend. 

The Rambelles open the week on Thursday with a matchup against fifth seed Oklahoma Christian. 

This side of the bracket also features top-seed West Texas A&M as well as RMAC Tournament Champions Regis. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles fell in the quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament to Lubbock Christian, only scratching across three hits and no runs, while a solo home run from LCU's Kamryn Gibbs proved to be the difference in the contest. 

Cheyenne Floyd threw a gem inside the circle, striking out a career-high 14 batters and allowing five hits and one run. Her performance saw her named to the All-Tournament team. 

The Rambelles hit .285 as a team, averaging 4.8 runs per game. The Rambelles are second in Division II with 24 triples hit this season. The Rambelles also rank 14th in the country, having been hit by 47 pitches this season. 

Averie Gunther has been plunked 19 times, the sixth-most in the country this season. 

Tatiana Trotter is second in the country with nine triples this season, a new single-season record at Angelo State., and Zoey De Baca leads the conference with five sacrifice flies this season.

The Rambelles have a 2.30 team ERA, third-best in the LSC, and lead the league with ten saves. They have struck out 275 batters in 349.1 innings, and opponents only hit .243 against the Rambelles, the fourth-best mark in the LSC. 

Cheyenne Floyd, the LSC Pitcher of the Year, has recorded 20 wins this season, more than twice her win total from a season ago. She is fifth in the league with a 1.72 ERA and is the first Rambelle pitcher since 2018 to reach the 20-win mark in a season. 

Teammate Matie Wolkow leads the league with five saves this season, tied for third-most in a single season in program history.

Oklahoma Christian is 32-21 overall on the season and 27-15 in LSC play; they are the fifth seed in the regional and are coming off a quarterfinal exit from the LSC Tournament, where they fell 10-6 to St. Mary's. The Eagles are 1-4 in neutral-site games this season. 

The Eagles are hitting .259 as a team and averages 3.4 runs scored per game. Their lineup features two players hitting above .300, paced by Whitney Walde's .324 average. Walde, an All-LSC Second Team selection, went 3-for-7 from the plate in the series between the two teams back in early March. Third baseman Brooklin Bain leads the team with six home runs and 20 runs driven in. Nineteen of her 36 hits this season have gone for extra bases. 

OC's pitching staff has a 3.38 team ERA, sixth in the LSC, and has struck out 249 batters in 361.2 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .232 against the Eagles, the third-best in the conference this season. The pitching staff is led by first-team all-conference selection Jill Dickson, who went 15-7 with a 3.15 ERA. She has struck out 121 batters in 163 innings and hold opponents to a .217 batting average. 

The Eagles have a .975 team fielding percentage, the third-best in the LSC this season. They have turned 14 double plays and thrown out 15 baserunners on 42 attempted steals. 

LAST TIME VS. OC
As head coach, Travis Scott is 6-8 versus the Eagles and took a pair of 4-1 wins in their regular-season series back in early March. This marks the first-ever neutral-site matchup between the two teams.  

THE REST OF THE FIELD
West Texas A&M, the LSC Regular Season and Tournament Champion, are the top seed in the regional. The Rambelles, Eagles, and Lady Buffs are joined at the regional by RMAC Tournament Champions Regis, who ripped off five-straight wins to claim the tournament title and the league's automatic bid. 

The Rambelles went 1-2 against the Lady Buffs and claimed both games over Regis back in February at the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge. 

The other side of the bracket features UT Tyler hosting Colorado Christian, Colorado Mesa, and St. Mary's. 

The winners from each side of the bracket will meet in the Super Regionals on May 14-15, with the top remaining seed hosting.
