Kansas City, Mo. – The NABC announced the recipients of the 2023-24 Team Academic Excellence Awards, and the Angelo State Men's Basketball program, under head coach
Vinay Patel, has earned recognition for its team's exploits in the classroom this past academic year.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men's basketball programs that completed the 2023-24 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Additionally, graduate students
Barlow Alleruzzo IV and
Trey Farrer, as well as junior
DJ Freeman, were recognized on the NABC Honors Court, which honors junior, senior, and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2023-24 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Alleruzzo IV and Farrer graduated this past May with master's degrees. Alleruzzo IV received his degree in Coaching, Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Administration, while Farrer earned his degree in Business Data Analytics. Freeman is pursuing a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Angelo State.
Over 2,100 players earned Honors Courts plaudits, while over 360 programs earned Team Academic Excellence Awards for this past year.
"The NABC is proud to celebrate these accomplished student-athletes, along with the coaches and staff who champion success in the classroom," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "Education is a core value of the NABC, and the teams and athletes who earned these awards prove that academic achievement remains a priority across every level of our sport."
