DALLAS – In their first of two ranked opponents this weekend, the Angelo State volleyball team prevailed in four sets over No. 20 DBU on Thursday evening inside DBU's Burg Center.
The Rambelles took set one 25-22 before dropping set two 25-17; they bounced back to win set three 25-22 and closed out the win with a 25-15 set four.
The first set featured the Belles overturning a 19-15 deficit, ending the set on a 10-3 run; set four saw them close out the Lady Patriots with a 5-0 scoring run as freshman
Allie Duitsman held serve for the run, capping the match off with her first career ace on the match's final point.
The Belles were out-killed 48-44 by the Lady Patriots but forced the nation's 20
th-ranked team into 21 attacking errors; DBU also struggled from the service line, turning in a season-high 15 service errors.
Madi Parrish led the Belles with 14 kills, recording a double-double with a joint-best ten digs. Freshman
Demi Carter turned in a career-high 12 kills and hit .611, only committing one attacking error.
Evelyn Torres added eight kills and eight digs, and
Hannah Spencer had seven kills and hit .500 for the match. Torres, Spencer, and Carter each recorded two blocks, tied for most for the Belles.
Setter
Adeline Ortman assisted 36 times and added eight digs and libero
Caleigh Enax tied Parrish for the team lead in digs with ten.
The win over DBU is the Belles' second-straight win over a ranked opponent; this marks the first time at Angelo State that head coach
Chuck Waddington has defeated two ranked opponents in back-to-back matches.
The Belles are 9-1 on the season; they are back in action tomorrow at 6 p.m. when they face No. 3 West Texas A&M.
