Strong Second Half Sees Rams Claim 72-68 Win over Midwestern State

SAN ANGELO – Three seniors – Shemar Smith, Carvell Teasett, and Sterling Gaston-Chapman – combined to score 58 of Angelo State men's basketball's 72 points as they snapped their two-game skid with a 72-68 win over Midwestern State on Thursday evening inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena.

The Rams shot 49.1 percent from the field in the contest, including 53.3 percent in the second half. Meanwhile, they held the Mustangs on only 27.3 percent shooting behind the arc and out-rebounded the visitors 37-26.

The Rams also assisted on 16 of their 27 made field goals.

Smith and Teasett each led the Rams with 20 points.

Smith fell just shy of a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds. He shot 7-for-13 from the field and went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. The 20 points are a season-high for the Norman, Oklahoma native.

Teasett scored 20 or more points in a game for the third time this season and the first since November 19th. He went 6-for-12 from the field, with only one shot (a miss) coming from inside the three-point line. His six made threes are the most in a single game this season for the Rams.

Gaston-Chapman followed closely behind with 18 points. He shot 7-for-12 from the field, making both attempts from three. He grabbed five rebounds and assisted a game-high six times.

Kendrick Delahoussaye, Blessing Adesipe, and Denim Dawson each scored four points. Delahoussaye grabbed four rebounds, Adesipe had two rebounds and two assists, and Dawson had three boards.

Jalen Gilmore had two points and four assists in eight minutes off the bench; DJ Freeman, despite not scoring, made an impact on the game, grabbing seven rebounds and blocking a pair of shots, including a block on a Mustang dunk attempt in the final minute that resulted in a four-point swing, essentially clinching the game for the Rams.

The Rams improve to 10-6 on the season and 6-4 in LSC play. They close out their weekend on Saturday afternoon against Lubbock Christian, who are coming off an overtime win against UT Permian Basin this evening in Odessa.
