Rams’ Defense Stifles Chaps in 65-55 Win

Evans surpassed 1,000 career points

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team completed a 2-0 week with a 65-55 win this afternoon over Lubbock Christian inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena.

The Rams' defense stood firm against a team that averaged nearly 80 points per game, holding them to a season-low 55 points. The Chaps shot 1-for-19 from the field, and their 35.1 shooting percentage from the field is the Chaps' second-lowest mark of the season. The Rams are 11-2 on the season when they hold opponents to under 70 points and 5-0 when they score under 60.

The Chaps' 5.3 percent mark from three is the lowest the Rams have held an opponent to since they held West Texas A&M to 4.2 percent shooting from deep on February 8th, 2020.

The Rams controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Chaps 39-30, improving to 8-1 on the season when they won the rebounding battle.

Shemar Smith led all players with 17 points, his third-straight game in double figures. He went 6-for-8 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Sterling Gaston-Chapman had 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Kaden Evans scored 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the field, going 3-for-5 from three as the graduate student surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career. Evans also grabbed five rebounds and dished out an assist. This is Evans' first game in double-digit scoring since December 16th.

Denim Dawson scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in only ten minutes off the bench.

Blessing Adesipe grabbed a career-high ten rebounds and scored six points, blocking a shot on the defensive end. Kendrick Delahoussaye also scored six points, all from the free-throw line, and assisted twice.

The Rams improve to 11-6 overall and 7-4 in LSC play. They are on the road next weekend to take on St. Mary's next Thursday in San Antonio. The Rattlers are the hottest team in the LSC, winning their last six games and sitting on top of the LSC standings.
