Richardson, Texas – The conference announced this morning that the Angelo State softball team was picked to finish third in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll. Additionally, senior pitcher
Cheyenne Floyd was named the LSC Preseason Pitcher of the Year.
The Rambelles tallied 590 points and one of 43 first-place votes. They are behind 2024 national champions, No. 1 UT Tyler (34 first-place votes, 672 points) and No. 13 West Texas A&M (eight first-place votes, 642 points).
Following the Rambelles is No. 20 Oklahoma Christian (528 points), and a tie between Lubbock Christian and St. Mary's (483 points) rounds out the top five.
The Rambelles return 13 players from last season's team, which went 37-18 overall and 28-14 in LSC play. They finished third in the conference and qualified for their 18
th NCAA Tournament appearance in the program's 23
rd season of play.
The reigning LSC Pitcher of the Year, Floyd went 20-10 last season with a 1.89 ERA. She struck out 167 batters in 163 innings of work, holding opponents to a .207 batting average. Last season, the Coaching, Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Administration graduate student was named an NFCA Second Team All-American and an LSC All-Academic pick.
The Rambelles open their season next weekend at the DII First Pitch Invitational in Conroe, where they will take on reigning RMAC Tournament champions Regis, MIAA champions Pittsburg State, and No. 21 Colorado Mesa.
The Rambelles open their home schedule on February 7-9 as they host the ASU George and Ola McCorkle Challenge Presented by West Texas Steel.
