SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 2 Angelo State baseball team utilized an early offensive surge and a commanding pitching debut to open the 2025 season with a shutout of UT Permain Basin by a score of 10-0 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium on Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Rams collected the first win of the regular and conference season while giving the Falcons their first loss in both.
Austin Beck led off for the Rams in the bottom of the first and utilized a bunt single to get aboard. After stealing second and third base, he scored on a ground out by
Jacob Guerrero.
In the ensuing inning, back-to-back singles followed by an error loaded the bases for a
Tayten Tredaway double down the right-field line to extend the Rams lead. He would then score on a wild pitch after a sacrifice bunt moved him to third base to complete the five-run inning.
Tredaway was the highlight of the Rams offense as he went 4-4 from the plate with a double and five RBIs.
Nick Wilson made his team debut on Friday. After giving up a single in the first, he proceeded to retire the following 16 batters in order using two double plays to erase the two runners he allowed over the next five innings. The senior from Carrolton, Texas turned in six complete innings of work and allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out six. His performance earned him his first pitching victory as a Ram.
The Blue and Gold added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after a hit by pitch and a walk set up back-to-back RBI singles by Guerrero and Tredaway.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Justin Harris hit a two-out double down the left field line before Beck tripled to right field to score Harris and force the run-rule resulting in the Rams' victory.
Angelo State will be back in action Saturday afternoon against UTPB with the first doubleheader of the season. First pitch from Foster Field at First Community Credit Union is scheduled for 1 p.m..
