SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team avenged a loss from earlier this season against UT Tyler, downing the Patriots in straight sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-20 this afternoon inside the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
The Belles hand the Patriots their first conference loss of the season and have four of the past five matches in this series.
The Belles, who previously lost to the Patriots in five sets at the LSC Challenge on Sept. 19, held the Patriots' offense to a .167 attack percentage, their lowest mark in conference play.
The Belles' most significant stretch of adversity came in set two, during which the Patriots started with a 9-3 advantage. However, a 6-0 run, which consisted of four
Julia Hopkins kills, gave the Belles a 17-15 advantage, one they would not relinquish en route to winning the set.
Madi Parrish turned in one of the best performances of her junior season, with 13 kills and 13 digs, her eighth double-double of the season. The Saginaw product only committed one error, hitting .414 for the match. She also had a pair of aces from the service line.
Hopkins finished with 11 kills, including the four from the Belles' 6-0 run in the second set.
Raelee Allen had seven kills and led the Belles with four blocks, and middles
Sydney Thornton and
Cate Boldrick had five kills and three blocks each. Thornton did not commit an error in nine swings, ending the match with a .556 attack percentage.
Madison Scrivner had 21 assists, and
Gabi Ashcraft assisted 20 times as the Belles hit .283 for the match. Scrivner recorded a double-double with 11 digs.
Libero
Ireland Ferguson led all players with 18 digs and notched a pair of aces from the service line.
The Belles close the weekend with a 12-6 record and a 6-1 record in conference play. They are home next Saturday to host UT Permian Basin.
