SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State volleyball team recorded its second ranked win of the season, and its first since the opening weekend, with a comprehensive four-set win over No. 14 West Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon inside the Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
The two teams traded sets one and two, with the Belles winning the opening set 26-24, while the Lady Buffs rebounded to even it up with a 25-22 decision in set two.
The Belles out-hit the Lady Buffs .277 to .132 over the final two sets, winning those sets 25-17 and 25-20. The Belles' defense held WT's high-powered offense to a .201 attack percentage, their sixth-lowest mark of the season.
Madi Parrish and
Demi Carter combined for 41 of the Belles' 66 kills in the match. Parrish led all players with 21 kills while also stuffing the stat sheet with 11 digs, four aces, and four blocks.
Carter set a new career-high in kills with 20. She hit .349 for the match and set a new career-high with eight digs.
This is the first match to feature two Belles with 20 or more kills since the Belles' five-set win over St. Mary's on Nov. 2
nd, 2024, which saw
Evelyn Torres and Parrish bury 24 and 21 kills, respectively.
Julia Hopkins followed her strong performance last night with 14 kills and seven digs this afternoon.
Middles
Cate Boldrick had five and four kills, respectively, while both recorded four blocks at the net.
Gabi Ashcraft set a new season-high for an Angelo State player this season with 31 assists. She joins Parrish in the double-double club with 13 digs.
Ireland Ferguson also tallied a double-double with 16 digs and 11 assists.
Krizia Perez was the fourth Belles in double figures with 11 digs.
The Belles improve to 17-7 on the season and 11-2 in LSC play. They are on the road next weekend to take on Midwestern State and LSC-leading Lubbock Christian.
