DENVER – The Angelo State volleyball team swept Colorado School of Mines on Friday evening to advance to the South Central regional championship for the second successive season, defeating the Orediggers 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 inside the Auraria Event Center on the campus of MSU Denver.
The Belles' offense reached peak flow state, hitting .325 in the match, their best mark in a single match since they hit .371 against Eastern New Mexico on October 31.
The Belles controlled the match from the service line with nine aces, their most in a three-set match since they had ten against Adams State on the season's opening weekend.
Madi Parrish and
Demi Carter recorded 14 kills each, nearly matching Mines' entire offensive production by themselves (31 kills).
Parrish hit .393 and dug ten balls for her 19
th double-double of the season. Carter only committed two errors to hit .364 and recorded eight digs.
Julia Hopkins joined her teammates in double digits with 11 kills.
Hannah Spencer had four kills on six swings and recorded four digs and notched an ace.
Gabi Ashcraft assisted 21 times while recording two kills on three attempts. The sophomore set a new career high with five service aces. Ashcraft's five aces are the most for a Belle in a single match since Kailyn Gilbreath had six aces against East Texas A&M on October 4, 2019.
Madison Scrivner assisted 14 times, and
Ireland Ferguson recorded 16 digs as the Belles out-dug the Orediggers 58-43.
The Belles are 26-7 on the season and advance to the South Central regional final, where they will face the winner of MSU Denver and West Texas A&M. This will be the Belles' sixth regional final in program history, and the third time they have gone to the regional final in successive seasons.
