William Opare Named LSC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

Richardson, Texas – Angelo State men's track and field runner William Opare was named the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon.

Opare, a product of Accra, Ghana, had a memorable debut for Angelo State, recording a pair of provisional marks, running the fastest time in Division II in the 400-meter dash at 47.07 seconds.

He set a new meet record at the Crimson and Gold Invitational, and his time is the second-fastest in all of the NCAA.

Opare was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team that ran a meet record of 3:07.92. The time is also the fastest in Division II this season and the third-fastest time in Division II ever.

Opare and the Angelo State Track and Field team resume their indoor season on January 16-17 in Lubbock when they compete in the Corky Classic, hosted by Texas Tech.
