No. 7 Rambelles Open LSC Play Against No. 20 Oklahoma Christian, Cameron

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team opens Lone Star Conference play this weekend at Mayer Field when they host No. 20 Oklahoma Christian and Cameron. Friday's doubleheader against the Eagles and Sunday's doubleheader against the Aggies will both start at 1 p.m.

Fans will receive T-shirts at the gate on Friday before the start of game two (approximately 3:30 p.m.) while supplies last. Limit one per person. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles went 4-1 this past weekend at the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge Presented by West Texas Steel, claiming a pair of wins over Ouachita Baptist, and single wins over Missouri Western and Texas A&M International. Over the weekend, the Rambelles allowed less than two runs per game. 

RAMBELLES RANKED NO. 7
The Rambelles are ranked seventh in the latest version of the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, up four spots from their preseason ranking of 11th. The Rambelles are in the nation's top ten for the first time since the 2022 season, where they were ranked as high as sixth in the country. 

APPLIN NAMED NFCA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore shortstop Laylonna Applin was named the NFCA/Louisville Slugger Division II Player of the Week on February 4th for her huge weekend in Conroe to open the 2025 season. Applin batted .667 and slugged 1.733 as eight of her ten hits went for extra bases. She drove 14 runs and led Division II in RBI through the opening weekend. Applin is the first Rambelle named national player of the week since Paxton Scheurer in March 2022. 

FLOYD NO-NO
Senior right-hander Cheyenne Floyd opened the 2025 season with the program's first no-hitter since 2017 in the Rambelles' 8-0 run-rule win over Regis. Floyd, the LSC Preseason Pitcher of the Year, recorded 13 of her 15 outs via strikeout and carried a perfect game into the fifth inning. Floyd carries a 1.00 ERA and a 3-0 record with 24 strikeouts in 14 innings as opponents hit .128 against the senior. 

SCOTT CLOSES IN ON 1K CAREER WINS
Head coach Travis Scott is closing in on 1,000 career wins. He currently sits on 981 career wins. He is seventh among all Division II coaches in wins, 23rd among all coaches across all three divisions, and 14th in winning percentage. He won his first 101 games at Southeastern Oklahoma before winning the next 880 wins at the helm of the Rambelles softball program.

  • Angelo State is 9-1 in conference play following successful weekends at the DII First Pitch Invitational and the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge Presented by West Texas Steel. The Rambelles are 4-1 on their home field this season. 
  • The Rambelles hit .288 as a team with a .453 slugging and .404 on-base percentage. The Rambelles average 5.2 runs per game. 
  • Four Rambelles are hitting above .300 this season, led by Laylonna Applin's .481 batting average. Applin also leads the team in doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage. 
  • Ashton McMillan and Erin Plunkett are hitting .364 this season, and Tatiana Trotter is hitting .346. 
  • Plunkett leads the team with nine walks, while Trotter is second in walks and RBI. 
  • Plunkett and Paris Brienesse have each been perfect in six stolen base attempts; the Rambelles are 21-for-22 on stolen base attempts this season. 
  • The Rambelles' pitching staff has a 0.85 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 66 innings. They have only allowed 49 hits, and their opponent's batting average is .206. 
  • Cheyenne Floyd is 4-1 with a 1.40 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 25 innings. Opponents are hitting .155 against Floyd this season.
  • Amelia Hatthorn is 4-0, allowing only one earned run in 23 innings. She has 20 strikeouts and threw two complete game efforts this past weekend at the McCorkle. 
  • Matie Wolkow is 1-0 with a save and has not allowed an earned run in ten innings. Wolkow is holding opponents to a .176 batting average.

  • Oklahoma Christian, which made the Super Regional a season ago, is 7-1 this season. The lone loss was an extra-inning loss to Montevallo on February 1st. 
  • Last weekend, the Eagles went 4-0 in their home tournament, defeating Missouri S&T 7-3, No. 20 Southern Nazarene 4-2, RV Pittsburg State 3-1, and Oklahoma Baptist 4-3. 
  • The Eagles are hitting .325 as a team with a .502 slugging and a .373 on-base percentage. The Eagles average 5.1 runs per game.
  • Six Eagles hit above .300, led by Maci George's .455 batting average. 
  • Kallie Rupp is hitting .400, and Kate Paulsen is hitting .368. Paulsen leads the team with eight RBI and a .737 slugging percentage. 
  • Marti Yaerger leads the team with five walks and three stolen bases. 
  • The Eagles' pitching staff, led by Grace Anderson and Jill Dickson duo, have a 2.22 ERA with 64 strikeouts in 56.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .269 against the Eagles this season. 
  • Anderson has a 3-1 record with a 1.57 ERA, also recording two saves. 
  • Dickson is 4-0 with a 2.27 ERA and has held opponents to a .247 batting average.
  • Anderson and Dickson have each recorded 30 strikeouts this season. 
  • The Rambelles are 7-9 all-time against the Eagles. The two teams split their four games last season, with the Rambelles winning two out of three in the regular season in San Angelo before the Eagles won 5-2 in the South Central regional opening round.
