Rambelles Fall to No. 6 UT Tyler

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Angelo State women's basketball team fell to No. 6 UT Tyler 70-63 Saturday afternoon inside of the Junell Center - Stephens Arena. 
 
The Belles fall to 16-11 overall and 12-9 in Lone Star Conference action.
 
40 Minute Rundown
  • Majik Esquivel started the game hitting a three from the corner to give the Rambelles the early lead. 
  • The Patriots went on an 8-0 run to bring the Rambelles lead out to 14-9 with 3:33 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Keniah Williams tied the game at 14-14 with 39 seconds remaining. 
  • Polina Latsheva from UT Tyler hit a three to send the Patriots into the second quarter up 17-14.
  • A fast break layup from Addy Burns at the 5:54 marker would bring the Rambelles within one, 25-24.
  • Tianna Knighton gave the Patriots their first double-digit lead after nailing a three from the top of the key, 36-24.
  • Polina Latsheva would hit another three at the end of the half to give the Patriots a 45-28 lead going into halftime. 
  • The Belles went on a 10-0 run starting at 3:47 marker and lasting until the end of the quarter to bring the deficit within seven, 53-46.
  • At the 2:09 marker, Burns knocked down and-one to bring the Belles deficit to three the lowest since the beginning of the second quarter. 
  • UT Tyler was able to keep the momentum in their favor knocking down clutch free throws to give themselves the 70-63 victory. 
 
GAME STATS
  • Williams recorded her tenth double-double of the year recording 17 points and 12 rebounds and also recording two blocks. 
  • Madeline Stephens had another consistent performance recording 14 points and nine rebounds.
  • Burns and Taylor Grona would both record 12 and 10 points respectfully. 
  • The Belles shot 35 percent (21-59) from the field, 25 percent (5-20) from behind the arc, and 88 percent (16-19) from the free throw line. 
  • The Belles would outrebound the Patriots 42-31.
  • The Belles lost the turnover battle 17-12.
  • There would be five different lead changes in the contest.

The Belles will play their final regular season game as they take on UT Permian Basin on Thursday, Feb.27 with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
