Brooks Tallies Win No. 800 as No. 2 Rams Sweep Eagles

EDMOND, Okla. – The No. 2 Angelo State baseball team defeated Oklahoma Christian by a score of 20-1 on Monday afternoon at Dobson Baseball Field.

With the win, head coach Kevin Brooks tallies win number 800 of his career! Further more, the Rams secure the third series sweep of the season, increase the winning streak to 10 games and improve to a 14-2 record while dropping the Eagles to 2-10.

Action began immediately in the game's opening frame when Ethan Flodstrom led off the ball game with a walk. A few batters later, he scored thanks to a two-out single by Lane Hutchinson. The Eagles quickly responded in the ensuing half inning as a hit-by-pitch and a walk allowed an RBI ground out to tie the game.

In the top of the third, Jacob Guerrero and Chase Pendley reached base for back-to-back RBI singles from Weston Valasek and Hutchinson. A batter later, a failed pick off attempt scored Valasek to increase the lead to three runs.

Ryan Free started on the mound for ASU and ran into a bit of trouble at the bottom of the fourth as he gave up two hits and was relieved for by Josh Reed, who would then force a ground out to end the threat. The senior from Frisco finished his day pitching 3 2/3 innings where he allowed one earned run off two hits and two walks while striking out a season-high seven batters.

From the fifth inning onward, the Rams went on to triple the run total starting with an RBI double off the bat of Blake Wilhoite that scored Austin Beck in the fifth. In the sixth, the Blue and Gold loaded the bases for a three-RBI double from Tayten Tredaway which was immediately followed by a two-run home run from Beck. Finally, in the seventh, ASU scored nine runs as the team utilized seven walks to load the bases multiple times which not only scored runs but also left runners aboard for a two RBI-double from Jaxon Weatherly and a two-RBI single from Tredaway which brought the game to its final score.

The Rams will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 28 when St. Mary's comes to town for a four game series at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
