No. 4 Rambelles Host Javelinas, Dustdevils

SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team is back home at Mayer Softball Field this weekend to host Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. The Rambelles and the Javelinas play at 2 p.m. on Friday before the Rambelles close out Sunday at 1 p.m. against the Dustdevils. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Rambelles went 2-2 to open their road schedule in LSC play, splitting doubleheaders with Texas Woman's and No. 1 UT Tyler. The Rambelles won game one against the Pioneers 10-0 in a six-inning, run-rule win before dropping game two 5-4. The Rambelles dropped game one against the nation's top team 13-2 in a five-inning run-rule before ending their weekend on a high note with a 3-2 win over the Patriots, the Rambelles' first-ever win in Tyler in eight games. 

RAMBELLES RANKED NO. 4
The Rambelles are ranked fourth in the latest version of the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, up one spot from last week's fifth ranking. The Rambelles are in the nation's top ten for the first time since the 2022 season and are in the top five for the first time since the beginning of the 2021 season. 

SHUT IT DOWN
The Rambelles have recorded six shutouts this season, one of five Division II teams to do so. They are well on pace to best their 13 shutouts from last season, done so in 55 games. The Rambelles' pitching staff owns a 1.69 team ERA and an opponent batting average of .210. 

FLOYD RECORDS
Senior pitcher Cheyenne Floyd continues to put her name all over the career record book at Angelo State. The senior is third in program history in career ERA (1.98) and opponent batting average (.203). Her 333 strikeouts for the Blue and Gold is sixth all-time; she sits three back of tying Mary Kate McKay for fifth all-time in program history. 

SCOTT CLOSES IN ON 1K CAREER WINS
Head coach Travis Scott is closing in on 1,000 career wins. He currently sits on 987 career wins. He is seventh among all Division II coaches in wins and 13th in winning percentage. He is 22nd among all coaches across all three divisions in wins. He won his first 101 games at Southeastern Oklahoma before winning the next 886 wins at the helm of the Rambelles softball program.

  • Angelo State is 15-3 on the season and 6-2 in conference play; the Rambelles are 8-1 at Mayer Softball Field this season.
  • The Rambelles hit .277 as a team with a .446 slugging and a .398 on-base percentage. The Rambelles average 5.1 runs per game. 
  • Four Rambelles are hitting above .300 this season, led by Laylonna Applin's .462 batting average. Applin also leads the team in doubles, home runs, RBI, and slugging percentage.
  • Applin ranks second in the country in home runs and total bases. 
  • Erin Plunkett is hitting .381 with a team-high .550 on-base percentage. She went 3-for-4 from the plate in the Rambelles' 3-2 win over UT Tyler. 
  • Zoey De Baca is hitting .324 this season after a 6-for-10 week from the plate against Texas Woman's and UT Tyler. 
  • Ashton McMillan is hitting .311 from the plate and is second on the team with 13 RBI. 
  • Plunkett is second in Division II with 17 walks drawn this season. 
  • Abby Brand and Averie Gunther have been hit by six pitches this season, which is tied for most in the LSC and fifth in the country. The Rambelles are fourth in the country with 20 hit by pitches this season. 
  • The Rambelles' pitching staff has a 1.69 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 115.2 innings. They have only allowed 86 hits, and their opponent's batting average is .210. 
  • Cheyenne Floyd is 8-2 with a save and a 1.24 ERA; she has 52 strikeouts in 50.1 innings. Opponents are hitting .145 against Floyd this season.
  • Amelia Hatthorn is 5-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 36.1 innings. She has 25 strikeouts and has matched her win total from last season. 
  • Matie Wolkow is 2-1 with a save, holding opponents to a .220 batting average.
  • The Rambelles' 1.69 ERA is 14th in the country, and their eight double plays are ninth. 
  • The Rambelles' .983 fielding percentage is the best in the LSC.

  • Texas A&M-Kingsville is 11-8 on the season and 6-2 in LSC play; they are 2-2 on the road this season, sweeping Western New Mexico before being swept by Eastern New Mexico to open LSC play two weekends ago. 
  • The Javelinas' non-conference schedule featured a win over then-No. 12 Mississippi College, 8-7, back on February 2nd.

  • Reigning LSC Pitcher of the Week Arianna Alaniz is 4-2 with a 3.07 ERA. She has struck out 51 batters in 27.1 innings, and opponents are hitting .189 against the freshman. 
  • The Rambelles are 52-19 all-time against the Javelinas. Last season, the Rambelles took two of three games against the Javelinas, winning games with a 2-0 and 1-0 scoreline before the Hogs took the series finale 7-4.
